Writer and yoga teacher based in Inner West Sydney, Australia. I am interested in: words, ideas, the material world, the body and the stories we carry.

THINGS I AM DOING

I teach yoga in-person in Birchgrove in inner west Sydney, at the beautiful Balmain Sailing Club.

I also teach yoga online, via Zoom.

My yoga doings are at www.yogabythewater and at www.yogastory.co

THINGS I HAVE DONE

I have worn many hats! I have worked as a researcher and as a research assistant on multiple projects in the fields of human rights and communications law.

I hold a Law degree with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney. I also hold a First Class Honours degree in Arts from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Technology, Sydney.

I have taught and tutored in creative writing and in critical theory at both UTS and UNSW.

I am a past recipient of the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Award for postgraduate study. This life-changing award sent me to live in Hong Kong. I also spent time in Beijing as an artist in residence at Red Gate Gallery.

After completing my yoga teacher training in Hong Kong under the guidance of George Dovas, and then doubling down and also mentoring in Sydney under the keen eye of Pixie Lillas, I taught full-time at the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Hong Kong, and then at Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio when I moved back to Australia after living in Asia.

I have served as the Vice Chair of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Hong Kong, and as Chair of the Events Committee for Iyengar Yoga Australia.

I was also fortunate to work on Iyengar Yoga Australia’s Senior Teachers Series 1 and 2, interviewing many of Australia’s longest-serving and most experienced Iyengar Yoga practitioners.

THINGS I AM THINKING

Perhaps what I have described above looks somewhat disparate to you, and as though the things I have done over time are not at all connected.

To me, it doesn’t feel that way.

Every job I have done has required my whole self: intellectual, physical, mental, emotional.

I have learnt so many things from colleagues in each place and space.

Some of the most inspiring people were the people where I thought “This job is so right for you! Your skills and your passion are so present!”

That “right fit” is what I seek in the work that I now do. It is the quality I endeavour to bring to my teaching, writing and communicating.

COLLABORATIONS

Some recent collabs that are dear to my heart:

Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, BGF

I am fortunate to ongoingly teach Iyengar Yoga to the clients of the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, which is a not-for-profit independent organisation supporting the lives of people living with HIV.

Mahboba’s Promise, Yoga Fundraiser for Women and Girls in Afghanistan

In 2022, I ran a live online yoga class as a fundraising event in support of women and girls in Afghanistan. We had an amazing turnout, and people participated from all over the world.

Hong Kong International Literary Festival, HKILF

And in 2021, I was delighted to teach a session for the Hong Kong International Literary Festival, bringing together writing and yoga.

That workshop explored how, in both yoga practice and writing, we can potentially free ourselves from what binds us, and move to become more bold and alive.

Photo is of Tiffany, a caucasian woman with short brown hair, sitting on a red sofa. She is smiling. She wears rust coloured yoga pants and a blue T-shirt with an Aum symbol on it. Artworks are visible behind her.
